Natural Disinfecting Spray

I am a big proponent of cleaning "green" and have been for a while. A book I reference often is Gillian Deacon's Green for Life as it has so many tips and tricks for becoming more eco friendly in all aspects of our lives. One of the many things that I have taken from her book is the natural disinfecting spray that I use in my kitchen which I love!

It is a combination of two essential oils: tea tree and lavender. Tea tree oil can do wonderful things and is commonly used to fight bacteria, fungi and viruses. Lavender is one of the most popular of the oils. In my kitchen spray it is employed as an antiseptic.

In a spray bottle filled with warm water I add 10 drops of both tea tree oil and lavender (use essential oils* as they are the natural plant oils where as fragrance oils have synthetic properties to them). I spray it liberally on the surfaces in my kitchen and wipe clean. This spray stays active a long time, so no need to use it up quickly.

* Essential oils are a bit expensive, but you only need a few drops to go a long way, so in the end you get good "green" value out of them.
