There is always a project on the go around here and where tools are to be had, so you will find the young noisemakers too. So for Christmas, I decided I wanted to make them their very own tool belts (in their size) though they were always more than willing to wear Daddy's and Grampie's hanging off their shoulders and down around their ankles. Now that is a funny picture!
Buying real toolbelts (in kid sizes) will come eventually, but while they are young (four and two), I really wanted to give them something handmade.
Knowing I had to make them quite strong (to hold the "big boy tools" the noisemakers were getting for Christmas) I actually sacrificed one of my best canvas shopping bags for the basis of the aprons. All in all, I think I used almost every square inch of the bag (which required some serious planning in order to get 2 aprons out of it!).
I wanted to use fun fabrics as well so Fella One is getting Thomas trains and Fella Two is getting the cars and trucks. Behind the cotton fabric is canvas for durability (and strength). I made sure that there were two large front pockets so that tools (and rocks and whatever else they decide is worthy of collecting) could easily be seen and grabbed by chubby little hands.
I plan to wrap the aprons up with a small tool box and the "big boy" tools. I know they will be thrilled at being Daddy's little helpers ... now if only we could get that playroom finished...hint, hint, hint ...
